NEWS UPDATE: Text of my introductory speech at the Brooksville Main Street Meet the Candidate event 9/28/2020

My name is Tom Dye and I am running for Brooksville City Council.

I want to thank Brooksville Main Street for inviting me here this evening, as well as all these other great candidates on the stage.

I especially want to thank everyone here for coming out tonight to experience first hand what our elections are all about.

For 11 months now I have sought advice from community leaders, business leaders, and especially citizens.

I would be remiss if I did not address the issue that has been in the news a lot in the past few days.

A sitting City Council member called for a BOYCOTT of all Brooksville businesses that support the Brooksville Main Street program.

This was posted in a since deleted Facebook group.

I want to state “unequivocally” that I do not support any boycott of local businesses just because they support Brooksville Main Street, or any other program.

Furthermore, I do not support boycotting businesses because their political affiliations may be different from mine either.

A City Council member’s job is to not only support ALL the citizens of Brooksville, and business as well, this also includes people that didn't vote for you.

I also believe that Just saying, I love Brooksville, or “I want to make a difference” is not an actual plan.

That’s why I have the issues that I propose up on my website:

OK, Something about me, I took early retirement this last January after a long career as an; Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, for small manufacturing firms, as well as large multi-nationals.

I have one sister and my Mom and Dad both worked. Before retiring, my Dad ran heavy equipment for a telephone company and my Mom was a Realtor. We were, and still are a typical middle class family.

My Parents taught me that I needed to take a stand for what is right, and good ethics are an important part of that

Most importantly, they taught me to be honest and responsive to others.

If elected I promise to be a responsive to all the citizens of Brooksville, and not just the ones who voted for me.

I respectfully ask for your vote, and thank you for taking time out of your busy evening to listen to not just me, but all of us up here       tonight.

Thank You, once again.

My name is Tom Dye and I am running for Brooksville City Council, seat 3.

Thank you
